In the heart of the church where light filters through glass,

A priest stands alone, his voice raspy like brass.

"But oh, in my misery, my foundation unstable,

How do we stand firm when the world is a fable?

"Romans thirteen, eight to ten," he recites,

"Owe nothing but love, which truly unites.

For love is the law that fulfills every deed,

In love, we find the answer, the creed."

"But oh, in my misery, my foundation unstable,

How do we stand firm when the world is a fable?

Matthew seven twelve, in the Book of God it's written,

'Treat others as yourself,' a command not smitten."

Oh, brethren gathered in pews so near,

Hear my words, as we confront our fear.

"For what is morality if not an eternal quest?

A powerful statement, to put faith to the test.

It’s choosing the right, though the winds may sway,

Holding fast to love, come what may."

The priest steps down, his sermon complete,

In the silence that follows, his words still reheat.
